A young lady shouted six chilling words before carrying out the horrific act of gouging out her own eyes outside a church.

Today marks Kaylee Muthart’s 28th birthday. Despite her optimistic outlook on life, she will be commemorating her special day without the gift of sight.

At the age of 20, Kaylee lost her vision permanently during a meth-induced psychotic episode. The former top student believed that removing her eyes would bring her closer to God and save the world.

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Kaylee’s life took a dark turn after consuming meth-laced drugs following a distressing breakup and mental breakdown. She was on the brink of entering rehab when the incident occurred in February 2018.

In a delusional state while high on meth, Kaylee felt compelled to make a sacrifice to prevent a catastrophic event. She vividly described her belief that tearing out her eyes was the rational action needed to avert disaster.

As she carried out the self-inflicted injury in a hallucinatory state, Kaylee cried out for light, expressing her desire to see. She was subdued before she could cause further harm and immediately taken for medical intervention.

Despite her challenges, Kaylee, now residing in Florida, has embraced her faith and displayed remarkable resilience. She successfully completed her education in a specialized school for the blind, mastering skills such as braille and adaptive technologies for communication.

Having undergone rehabilitation and achieved sobriety, Kaylee reflects on the alternate path her life might have taken without the tragic event that led to her blindness. She ponders the simple joys of experiencing the world visually and expresses hope for divine intervention to grant her sight once more.

Kaylee, who now uses prosthetic eyes, views her blindness as a safeguard against relapse and considers it a preferable outcome compared to the perils of drug addiction.

In navigating her unique reality, Kaylee finds solace in her faith and remains steadfast in her journey towards healing and self-acceptance.
