A tragic incident occurred at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tuscon, Arizona, where Roger Wallace, a 60-year-old father of two, lost his life in an unusual accident involving his own toy plane. Wallace, who was part of the Southern Arizona Modelers group for three years, was piloting a 5ft-wide model aircraft when he encountered difficulties due to sunlight glare, leading to severe injuries to his heart and lung. Despite efforts from friends and emergency responders, Wallace succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Club President Jerry Knebel expressed shock over the incident, highlighting that such accidents were extremely rare in their community. Wallace, who had previously been involved in drag racing, had transitioned to flying as a safer hobby. The club, which adhered to strict safety protocols, had not experienced any accidents in many years.
In a separate incident, Tang Feiji, a well-known aviation enthusiast in China, tragically passed away during a livestream when his twin-rotor aircraft crashed in Jiange County. Despite the viewers’ frantic calls for help, Tang could not be saved and was declared dead at the crash site. Tang, who had a significant following on social media, was recognized for his flying content.
The aviation community mourns the loss of both enthusiasts, emphasizing the importance of safety measures in recreational flying activities.
