Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have recently encountered significant screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances where text disappears entirely, while others have described seeing blank white boxes instead of their email content.
Expressing their frustration, Gmail enthusiasts have turned to social media to voice their concerns. One user named Jeremiah took to X platform to address the problem, stating, “@gmail, when will Android be fully functional on folding phones like my Samsung Fold? The persistent flickering on the inner screen for the past four days is completely unacceptable.”
Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with a user highlighting the challenge of reading emails due to continuous screen flickering despite attempts to resolve the issue through various troubleshooting steps.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has identified the root cause as a potential problem with Android System WebView, a crucial component that enables applications to display web content within the app interface. According to Kitani, some devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are facing intermittent issues associated with Android System WebView, prompting Google to address the matter urgently.
While the exact number of affected users remains unclear, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted devices.
In the interim, a temporary solution has been suggested. Kitani recommends rotating the device as a quick fix to alleviate the flickering problem. The workaround involves opening the email in portrait mode, switching the device to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then reverting to portrait mode.
As users await a permanent resolution from Google, rotating the device seems to offer a simple yet effective remedy to mitigate the screen flickering issue.
