A 15-year-old girl, Latifa, was part of the global issue of child marriages before escaping from the severe sexual abuse by a 35-year-old man. Hailing from Tanzania, Latifa was forced into marriage at a young age and faced hardship, including hunger and limited meals. Despite her difficult circumstances, Latifa dreamt of becoming a doctor and was determined to pursue education.

Her aspirations were shattered when her father arranged for her marriage to a man named Salum, whom she barely knew. The experience was traumatic for Latifa, as she was taken to a new city and subjected to abuse and mistreatment by her husband. Despite her suffering, Latifa gave birth to a baby girl named Zainabu.

After enduring mistreatment and abandonment by her husband, Latifa found refuge with a woman named Happy, who provided her with support and a sense of belonging. With the help of organizations like Plan International, Latifa now earns her own income and is determined to provide a better life for her daughter, ensuring that she receives an education and does not face the same fate of forced marriage.

Latifa’s story serves as a reminder of the resilience and courage exhibited by young girls facing challenging circumstances, and the importance of support systems in helping them rebuild their lives.
