A 21-year-old woman is currently in critical condition at a hospital in Liverpool after the vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a collision during a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west on December 10. The incident occurred around 11 pm. The female driver, also 21, and another woman in the car were also hospitalized in serious conditions.

According to New South Wales Police, officers spotted a Ford Ranger allegedly speeding through a red light while on patrol. They initiated a pursuit when the driver failed to stop, but it was quickly ended due to safety concerns.

A spokesperson for the police stated that a critical incident investigation has been launched following the crash. The pursuit resumed shortly after being terminated, leading to the Ford Ranger colliding with a BMW sedan and a Toyota Yaris hatchback at an intersection. The 21-year-old woman in the sedan was critically injured and taken to the hospital, along with the 21-year-old driver and another passenger in the vehicle.

The 17-year-old male driver of the stolen Ford Ranger was also hospitalized for precautionary checks and is expected to be taken into custody upon release. It was later discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen the day before the incident.

An independent critical incident team is looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigation will undergo an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
