A single mother has been sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison for the alleged murder of two Australian brothers and their friend in Mexico. Callum, 33, and Jake, 30, Robinson, along with their companion Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, went missing during a surfing trip in Baja, Mexico, on April 27 last year. Their bodies, along with a fourth unidentified body, were later found at the bottom of a well.
Ari Gisell, a 23-year-old single mother and former girlfriend of Jesús Gerardo, has been accused of murder alongside two other individuals. Prosecutors revealed that Gisell initiated the crime by expressing her desire for the car tires the victims were using. The court heard that Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús encountered the victims, robbed them at their campsite, and allegedly shot them dead.
During the court proceedings, Debra Robinson, the mother of Callum and Jake, expressed profound grief over the loss of her sons. Likewise, Natalie Weirtz, the widow of Carter Rhoad, described her devastation, stating that her life had turned into a nightmare.
Gisell, after shedding tears and listening to the testimonies, admitted her guilt and expressed remorse for her actions. She received a 14-year prison sentence for violent vehicle robbery and an additional six years for robbery with violence, along with a fine.
Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús have been charged with aggravated homicide in relation to the deaths of the victims. Their trial date is pending as they have not entered formal pleas. Another individual who cooperated with authorities is not believed to be involved in the murders or robbery.
Authorities are actively searching for a fourth suspected murderer, whose identity is known to prosecutors but has not been disclosed to the public.
