The Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina experienced a power outage just 10 minutes after commencing, causing a temporary halt in proceedings. The curling events were underway when the lights unexpectedly went off, leading to a brief pause in the competition.

Although the official Opening Ceremony at the San Siro was scheduled for Friday, some events had already started, including the mixed doubles round robin matches in curling. The match between Britain’s Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds had to be stopped due to the power failure at the Olympic Ice Stadium.

Amidst the interruption, the British curlers maintained a positive attitude, with Dodds even finding humor in the situation, laughing as officials worked to resolve the issue. BBC commentator Steve Cram, while amused by the incident, reported on the power cut affecting the stadium, causing a temporary pause in play.

Following a delay of approximately five minutes, the crowd cheered as the lights flickered back on, allowing the competition to resume. Dodds and Mouat went on to secure an 8-6 victory, kicking off the round robin phase on a high note. Mouat downplayed the disruption, describing it as a fun experience akin to a dance or a rave.
