McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing frustration following the announcement of a significant alteration to the company’s loyalty program. Starting from March 17, customers will need 6,500 points, up from 5,500, to redeem popular items like a Big Mac or Chicken Nuggets through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. The point requirement for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will also increase from 1,500 to 2,000 points.
Moreover, the threshold to acquire treats like a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will rise from 2,500 points to 3,500. For heartier options like a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, the point requirement will jump to 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.
Responding to concerns on social media, one customer expressed dissatisfaction, while another sought clarification on the implementation date to plan their redemptions accordingly. A McDonald’s spokesperson attributed the loyalty scheme changes to the escalating costs of food and supplies. Despite the point adjustments, the company introduced new redemption options like Chicken Selects and Sausage Sandwiches to cater to diverse preferences.
In other news, McDonald’s unveiled a new menu featuring innovative items like the Surf N’ Turf burger, blending beef patties with a crispy white fish fillet, cheese, and condiments. The Chicken Cheeseburger, combining a beef patty with a crispy chicken patty, is also part of the new offerings. Customers can now indulge in the Espresso Milkshake, a rich vanilla shake with a shot of espresso, and the Chilli Cheese Bites served with a zesty tomato sauce.
