Users of older iPhone models often face performance issues, experiencing a gradual slowdown over time, particularly noticeable after Apple’s annual iOS update in September. However, a significant change is expected in 2026.

Apple recently unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC in California, introducing enhancements such as an upgraded Siri assistant, improved Apple Intelligence, advanced photo editing tools, and new customization options for the sleek Liquid Glass design. Notably, Apple has also pledged substantial performance improvements.

The tech giant anticipates that iOS 27 will boost app launch speeds by up to 30%, creating a smoother user experience on a daily basis.

Moreover, Apple assures that photo loading times will be up to 70% faster on all devices, with AirDrop transfers being expedited by up to 80%.

Excitingly, these improvements will not only benefit users of the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max but will also extend to older models like the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 thanks to a feature known as the CPU scheduler, enhancing overall speed and fluidity.

The CPU scheduler optimizes performance by prioritizing the active app on the screen over background processes, ensuring a more efficient user experience.

By dynamically adjusting performance levels, users can expect a significantly enhanced device usage experience.

While the exact impact remains to be seen, Apple is confident that these improvements will prolong the usability of older devices, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade iPhones that are still in good working condition.

“Enhancements across platforms drive essential system capabilities forward, resulting in faster, smoother, and more enjoyable daily tasks,” explained Apple.

Although the release date is pending, iOS 27 is expected to be available in September.
