A British man’s idyllic life in a foreign country turned into a nightmare when he was mistakenly imprisoned on drug-related charges. Luke Tully, 47, left north London to pursue his dream in Dubai, where he operated two successful restaurants. Despite enjoying a lavish lifestyle and significant income, his world crumbled when authorities arrested him.
Tully, who was wrongfully accused and sentenced, endured a harrowing two-year ordeal in a prison filled with criminals. His troubles began when he associated with an individual who organized VIP events at a popular nightclub in Dubai. This acquaintance, who frequented Tully’s restaurants with large groups, was later caught with drugs, leading to the police linking Tully to the case.
The British expatriate recounted the night that changed everything, recalling how law enforcement raided his home based on a text message regarding a table reservation. Mistakenly interpreting the message as drug-related, the police barged in aggressively, leaving Tully fearing for his life. He described being assaulted, coerced into signing a false confession, and threatened with severe consequences.
Despite no evidence of drugs found at his residence and negative drug test results, Tully was unjustly incarcerated without a fair trial. He was subjected to appalling conditions in Dubai’s overcrowded prison, sharing cramped facilities with numerous inmates, including violent offenders.
During his time behind bars, Tully faced the grim prospect of a lengthy prison sentence or even the death penalty. However, after enduring 19 months of uncertainty, the case against him collapsed, leading to his deportation back to the United Kingdom. Despite the traumatic experience, Tully expressed no regrets about his decision to move to Dubai, emphasizing the personal growth he gained from the ordeal.
