A 21-year-old mother has been charged with the murder of her two infants within a span of three years, displaying a dismissive attitude when authorities arrived at her residence.
Dakota Taylor, aged 21, was taken into custody on November 20 following an inquiry into the passing of her eight-month-old son, Caleb, who died in Jefferson County, Georgia, in January 2025. Caleb was discovered unresponsive at a dwelling in Matthews and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) revealed that at the time of her recent arrest, Taylor was already incarcerated at the McDuffie County Jail, detained in connection to the demise of her other child, seven-month-old Micah, in September 2021.
As per a grand jury arrest warrant sourced by 14 News, Taylor was accused of causing Micah’s demise by intentionally obstructing his airways. Initially ruled as undetermined, Micah’s death investigation has now led to these serious allegations against Taylor.
It has come to light that Taylor was residing at a group home with Micah when the tragic incident occurred. Detectives noted Taylor’s peculiar behavior while medical procedures were being performed on the infant and during his transportation to the hospital, as reported by WRDW.
During the investigation period, Taylor was under the supervision of the Georgia Department of Child and Family Services. The arrest affidavit outlines that on January 8 of the same year, Taylor allegedly deprived Caleb of oxygen, resulting in his death due to “excessive physical and mental pain.”
According to the affidavit, Taylor deliberately caused Caleb’s death. Reports from WRDW indicate that a family member disclosed that Taylor dropped off Caleb at their residence on the day the infant passed away, with a blanket covering his face initially obscuring his condition.
Upon removing the blanket inside the house, the family member discovered Caleb with blue lips, prompting immediate transportation to the hospital where he tragically passed away.
Following investigations into both infants’ deaths, Taylor faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, and cruelty to children in connection to both incidents. She is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.
The GBI released a statement confirming Taylor’s arrest and charges, detailing the circumstances surrounding Caleb’s tragic death in Matthews, Georgia, and her previous detainment in relation to another child death case in DeKalb County, Georgia.
