A teenage girl from the UK is in critical condition after being rescued on a beach in Costa Brava, as per local reports. The 14-year-old, whose name has not been disclosed, remains in critical condition at Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona. She experienced cardiac arrest after being swept away by a wave at Lloret de Mar on the Spanish Costa Brava around 11:45 am on Saturday.

The girl was part of a school group from London on a study trip staying at a hotel in Lloret de Mar. The incident happened on the same day they were supposed to return to the UK.

Police were alerted to the situation and rushed to the beach upon seeing two individuals, including the teenager, being carried out to sea by a wave. Despite efforts by the police and firefighters, the girl was unconscious when rescued. Dramatic footage shows the girl being saved about 500 feet from the shore and receiving CPR for approximately 30 minutes.

After being attended to by ambulance workers, she was taken to the hospital. Authorities are looking into the incident for possible negligence, with the case expected to be forwarded to a court in Blanes near Lloret for further investigation.

Witnesses praised the swift response of the emergency teams involved in the rescue. Local reports indicate that the incident is being treated as an accident, absolving the chaperones from responsibility.
