A woman identified as Katie Fox, aged 34, has tragically passed away after being stabbed in the neck during an apparently random incident in Birmingham city center. The attack occurred on Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9 pm on Friday, leading to Fox being rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. West Midlands Police confirmed her death on Monday and stated that Djeison Rafael, who appeared in Birmingham Magistrates Court, is facing murder charges.

Rafael, a 21-year-old resident of Rosedale Avenue in Smethwick, was seen at the court wearing a grey T-shirt and was flanked by officers. Despite repeated interruptions during the hearing, he was instructed to remain quiet and face forward. In addition to the murder charge, Rafael is accused of two counts of causing bodily harm on separate dates in October and November, possession of a Stanley blade, and assaulting a detention escort officer.

During the brief court appearance, District Judge John Bristow informed Rafael that the severity of the charges necessitated referral to the crown court on November 12. West Midlands Police are appealing for information from the public regarding Rafael’s actions and whereabouts. Described as a black British national, Rafael was reportedly wearing an all-grey tracksuit, a black hat, trainers, and carrying a rucksack on the evening of the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact them via phone by quoting log 5503 of November 7 or through the Major Incident Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/20HQ25C21-PO1. In response to the tragic incident, additional police presence in Birmingham city center has been arranged to provide reassurance to the community.
