Canada’s Marco Arop secured a fourth-place finish during the recent Diamond League track and field event held at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland. Arop took an early lead but couldn’t sustain his pace in the final 400 meters, crossing the finish line in fourth with a time of 1:43.18.
The race was won by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in a time of 1:42.19, followed by Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati in second place with a season-best time of 1:42.31. American Brandon Miller claimed the third spot with a time of 1:42.55.
Arop and Sarah Mitton were the only two Canadians to compete in the Diamond League Final last year in Zurich, where they both finished third. Heading into Friday’s race, Arop was ranked second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings behind Emmanuel Wanyonyi, putting him in a strong position to qualify for the upcoming 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final scheduled for September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.
In the men’s 200m event, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, the reigning Olympic champion, dominated the race, clocking in at 19.87 seconds to claim victory. South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile finished second in 19.98 seconds, followed by Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba in third place with a time of 20.14 seconds.
American Kayla White emerged victorious in the women’s 200m race, finishing with a time of 22.18 seconds. It was a close finish for second and third place, with Amy Hunt from Great Britain narrowly edging out Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, both timed at 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, had to pull out of the race due to an injury.
The event showcased impressive performances from athletes around the world, setting the stage for the upcoming Diamond League Final in Brussels.
