Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has released new photos from the scene of a tragic accident involving British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. The organization has also provided detailed information on the incident that claimed the lives of two individuals.
Anthony Joshua was hospitalized after being rescued from the wreckage of the SUV he was traveling in with a driver and other passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The crash was reportedly caused by a burst tire, leading the vehicle to lose control and collide with a stationary lorry.
The Ogun State police have initiated an investigation into the incident, while the FRSC has also issued an update. The FRSC’s post on X platform on December 29 displayed previously unseen images of the damaged SUV and the truck it collided with.
The accompanying statement by the FRSC confirmed the fatal crash involving Anthony Joshua and a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The crash resulted in two fatalities, one injury, and two individuals escaping unharmed. Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries and was rescued alive.
The FRSC highlighted that the crash was likely caused by the Lexus Jeep exceeding the speed limit and losing control during an overtaking maneuver. They emphasized the dangers of excessive speed and reckless overtaking on Nigerian highways, urging motorists to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic regulations.
The FRSC extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery. They reiterated the importance of safe driving practices and urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during high-traffic periods like the festive season.
According to preliminary reports, the two individuals who died in the crash were identified as male foreign nationals by the Ogun State government. Anthony Joshua has not made any public statements following the accident, and his current location remains undisclosed.
