Millions of Gmail users have been alerted to an important message regarding privacy concerns with AI scanning emails. The cautionary note, shared by TV personality and entrepreneur Lori Greiner on Instagram, warns users about Google’s new AI features that analyze emails for smart searches, contextual replies, and summaries. Despite Google’s assurance that personal data remains secure, Greiner urges Gmail users to be cautious.

To disable AI scanning in Gmail, users can easily navigate to Settings, select “see all settings,” and turn off smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet. Additionally, by managing Workspace Smart Features and unchecking boxes for Workspace and other products, users can further restrict data access for AI. Google emphasizes that personal data is never viewed by its team or external parties, ensuring privacy and security for users.

While Google clarifies that AI models like Gemini do not train on personal emails and only access data for specific tasks, some users may prefer to opt out of AI features in Gmail to maintain privacy. By taking these steps, Gmail users can control the extent of AI scanning in their inbox and ensure their data remains private.
