Sir Geoffrey Boycott has urged for the dismissal of Brendon McCullum following England’s embarrassing defeat in the Ashes series. Australia’s victory in the third Test sealed the series win in just 11 days of play, making it the fastest decision since the 1921 Ashes. Despite England’s upcoming matches in Melbourne and Sydney, attention has already shifted to the post-2025-26 series plans.

McCullum, appointed in May 2022, initially led England to a remarkable turnaround with 10 wins out of 11 matches under Ben Stokes’ captaincy. However, criticism has mounted against their aggressive playing style known as ‘Bazball’ following poor performances against India and a draw at home. Boycott, a vocal critic of ‘Bazball,’ emphasized the need for a change in leadership, suggesting that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) should act swiftly.

In his column for the Telegraph, Boycott emphasized the necessity for change, stating that the current approach led by Stokes and McCullum has reached its limit. He also directed his advice to England’s managing director, Rob Key, urging him to take decisive action in the team’s best interest.

After England’s defeat at the Adelaide Oval, McCullum acknowledged his coaching mistakes in the lead-up to the crucial series, admitting that errors were made in preparation. As the team reflects on their performance, the call for change in leadership grows louder.
