Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the star player for the Toronto Blue Jays, has been cleared to play after coming off the seven-day injured list. He is set to join the team for the game against the New York Yankees on Saturday.
Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week in Toronto. The incident occurred during a play at third base when he collided with New York’s rookie shortstop, George Lombard Jr. Guerrero slid into third base, and Lombard’s knee and thigh made contact with his head, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the collision, Guerrero managed to score before leaving the game.
After undergoing final concussion tests, Guerrero returned to the team on Friday. He participated in a minor league rehabilitation game for single-A Dunedin, where he doubled and took swings in the batting cage. Following his successful recovery, Guerrero was placed second in the batting lineup for Saturday’s game, following the Blue Jays’ 3-1 loss to the Yankees in the previous game. In a corresponding move, the team sent Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Before the injury, he had been performing well, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
