Three-time Olympian Michelle Plouffe has made a return to competitive basketball by coming out of retirement to join Canada’s four-player lineup for the upcoming FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series tournament in Bangkok, Thailand. Plouffe, aged 33, will team up with her twin sister Katherine Plouffe, along with Cassandra Brown and Paige Crozon for the event commencing this Saturday.
Heading into the final phase of the regular season, Canada currently holds the 10th spot in the women’s series rankings. With the top seven teams and host China securing spots in the women’s series final in Shanghai on September 5-6, the event in Bangkok serves as a crucial opportunity for Canada to accumulate important qualification points.
Steve Baur, the vice-president and general manager of Canada Basketball’s women’s high-performance program, expressed confidence in Plouffe’s addition to the team given her deep connection to the sport and the group. Plouffe, who officially retired on July 28, 2025, assumed the role of Canada Basketball’s 3×3 performance manager, following a successful career that included leading Canada to multiple FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series titles, a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 World Cup, and a fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics.
The decision to bring Plouffe back for the Bangkok tournament was strategically made to bolster the team’s performance during a crucial phase of the season while offering her the opportunity to reignite her competitive spirit on the court.
