A warning of potentially life-threatening conditions has been issued as Storm Claudia is expected to bring heavy rainfall of up to 90mm across the UK. Millions of residents have been cautioned about the risks of flooding, power outages, and other dangers as the storm approaches. Amber rain alerts have been issued for the Midlands, East Anglia, and the border region between England and Wales.

The impact of Storm Claudia is projected to be most severe in the Midlands, central and southern Wales, and East Anglia starting from noon tomorrow until midnight on Saturday. The Met Office has highlighted the potential for power outages, disruption of essential services, and the likelihood of homes and businesses facing flooding. Residents are advised to prepare emergency flood kits, especially in the East Midlands where rainfall could reach 80mm and possibly exceed 150mm in elevated areas of Wales.

The British Weather Services’ senior meteorologist, Jim Dale, emphasized the upcoming heavy and continuous rainfall across England and Wales, anticipating between 60-90mm of rain in some areas. Hazardous driving conditions and widespread flooding are expected, particularly along the M4 corridor and surrounding areas where amber warnings have been issued.

In addition to the aforementioned regions, the Met Office has extended yellow wind and rain warnings from the South West up to Lincolnshire. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert warned of very heavy rainfall affecting central and southern England and Wales, potentially leading to flooding due to saturated ground. Within the Amber warning areas, accumulation of over 150mm of rain is possible, with gusty winds posing an additional risk in northwest England and northwest Wales.

Affected regions include the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East of England, South West England, Wales, and West Midlands. Stay informed by selecting Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News for timely updates.
