Novak Djokovic playfully mentioned that he still has many years ahead to achieve his goal of winning a 25th Grand Slam singles title after his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final. Alcaraz triumphed over Djokovic with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5, becoming the youngest man to secure victories in all four Majors at the age of 22.

The 38-year-old Djokovic aimed to be the first player to claim 25 singles titles but once again fell short against Alcaraz, who previously thwarted him in the 2024 Wimbledon final. Alcaraz broke Rafael Nadal’s record as the youngest man to achieve the career Grand Slam, a fact Djokovic stressed in his post-match speech in Melbourne.

During the on-court address, Djokovic congratulated Carlos for his remarkable tournament performance, hailing it as historic and legendary. Djokovic wished Alcaraz success in his future endeavors, highlighting their youth and hinting at future encounters on the court.

Alcaraz’s recent victory at the Australian Open marks a streak where the last nine men’s Grand Slam singles titles at major tournaments have been won by either Spaniards or Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz now boasts seven Major titles, with Sinner holding four.

Although Djokovic’s dominance era seems to have passed, evident from his last Major win at the 2023 US Open, where he defeated Daniil Medvedev, the Serbian, seeded fourth in Melbourne, remains determined in his pursuit of a 25th title.

Djokovic expressed gratitude towards his team for their enduring support, acknowledging the challenges they faced together. He reflected on his belief in himself, essential when competing against formidable opponents, and the unwavering support from fans throughout his career.

In a show of sportsmanship, Alcaraz praised Djokovic in his speech, commending the Serbian for his inspiring dedication and hard work, acknowledging the influence Djokovic has had on his own career and the sports world at large.
