Novak Djokovic is set to face off against world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s final of the Australian Open following a hard-fought victory over defending champion Jannik Sinner. The 24-time Grand Slam winner showcased his skills to overcome the Italian in a five-set battle on Friday, with Alcaraz securing a grueling win against Alexander Zverev in the longest-ever semi-final in Australian Open history.

Sinner took an early lead of 3-0 in the first set, aiming to extend his winning streak against Djokovic, having claimed victories in their past five encounters. Djokovic, who had faced setbacks in earlier rounds, including a walkover and losing sets, displayed resilience and determination to turn the tide in his favor.

The Serbian maestro exhibited aggressive baseline play in the second set, capturing his first set against Sinner since their previous Melbourne Park clash in 2024. Despite experiencing moments of fatigue in the match, Djokovic’s strategic serves and unwavering focus helped him secure crucial points, leading to an intense five-set showdown.

Djokovic maintained his momentum in the final set, fending off break points and eventually clinching a 5-4 lead over Sinner. With both players visibly exhausted, Djokovic capitalized on his serves and strategic play to seal the victory, much to the delight of the crowd at Rod Laver Arena.

Reflecting on his hard-fought triumph, Djokovic expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and praised his opponent’s tenacity. He acknowledged the challenging match and the high level of play required to overcome Sinner, emphasizing the significance of the win in the context of their recent encounters.
