Police are conducting a significant investigation following the apprehension of a man who allegedly attempted multiple times to force a distressed woman into a car in a busy city setting.
The incident occurred in the Clifton area of Bristol on September 30, where a man tried to push the woman into a Peugeot 207 while she screamed for help. A member of the public intervened by confronting the man as the woman was driven away in the vehicle.
Subsequently, the car stopped in Coxley, near Wells, Somerset, where the victim managed to escape but was coerced back into the vehicle by the man. The man then drove off when other vehicles approached the scene. Later in Coxley, the car was used to attack the victim before she was once again forced into the car and driven away.
The vehicle later arrived at a small car park on Rowdens Road, where the victim called out for help to three individuals before being taken by the man. Following this, the man fled the scene while the victim received assistance from the three men who transported her to safety in a black saloon car.
Detective Constable Kirsty Richards emphasized the seriousness of the incidents and urged the public to provide any relevant information to aid the investigation. It was clarified that the incident involved individuals known to each other, with no broader threat to the public. The victim is receiving specialized support from officers.
Authorities are seeking witnesses who might have seen parts of the incident or the involved car. Particularly, they are keen to speak with the person who intervened in Bristol, drivers who witnessed events in Coxley, and the three men who assisted the victim in Wells. These individuals are believed to hold crucial information for the investigation.
Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 5225274967, or complete the online appeals form provided by Avon and Somerset Police.
