A significant breakthrough occurred when a brave train attendant regained consciousness in a hospital after a violent stabbing incident near Huntingdon. The hero, identified as Samir Zitouni, 48, was part of the LNER catering team on the Doncaster to London King’s Cross route when multiple individuals were attacked. His actions were commended as heroic by the British Transport Police.
Following serious injuries sustained in the knife assault, Samir was admitted to Addenbrooke Hospital in Cambridge. Among the 11 individuals treated for injuries during the LNER service incident, Samir’s condition was initially critical.
Fortunately, there was a positive development as Samir briefly regained consciousness and interacted with his wife after previously being in critical condition. Subsequently, a GoFundMe initiative aimed at supporting Samir’s long-term care achieved a significant milestone, reaching 90% of its £70,000 target by Tuesday evening. The fundraiser was established to assist Samir and his family throughout his recovery process.
Gemma Royce, the organizer, shared on November 7 that Samir had briefly woken up, marking a positive step in his journey to recovery. She expressed gratitude for the continued support and well wishes extended to Samir and his family.
Describing Samir’s bravery during the tragic event, the campaign highlighted his selfless actions that saved lives, including that of a teenage girl. Meanwhile, the suspect, Anthony Williams, 32, faced charges of attempted murder against 10 train passengers. Williams appeared in court and was remanded in custody until December 1.
Additionally, Williams is under investigation for another train assault on the same day in east London, as well as three other knife-related incidents to determine potential links.
