A mother of a five-year-old boy recounted the terrifying moment when her son was attacked by a dog in a local park, causing serious injuries to his face. She expressed her fear that her son might have died if the dog had bitten lower on his face. The mother, Joanne Goffey, is now advocating for responsible pet ownership, urging dog owners to keep their pets on leads in public areas to prevent similar incidents and potential scarring.

The incident occurred as Roman, the young boy, was walking with his mother in a park near their Doncaster home. The unleashed dog, believed to be a bull breed, attacked Roman, causing injuries to his eye, ears, and cheeks. Roman required surgery on his ear and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of owning a dangerously out-of-control dog. The dog is currently in police custody. Joanne described the harrowing experience of seeing her son under attack and covered in blood, with Roman expressing his fears of death. Despite the trauma, Roman has shown remarkable resilience by returning to the park to play, leaving his mother in awe of his strength.

The incident has reignited discussions on dangerous dog breeds, with recent fatal attacks prompting legislative changes. Possession of certain breeds without proper certification is now banned, with owners required to register, neuter, muzzle, and leash their dogs in public spaces. These measures aim to prevent further tragic incidents involving aggressive dog breeds.

In a separate incident, a nine-month-old boy was tragically killed by a family dog believed to be of a similar breed as the one involved in Roman’s attack. Authorities have arrested individuals suspected of being in charge of the dog during the fatal incident, underscoring the importance of responsible pet ownership and measures to protect public safety.
