During the warmer months, Virgin Media suggests some helpful tips to ensure optimal broadband performance throughout the year. Keeping your router in a central location, rebooting it monthly, and avoiding signal-interfering objects like fish tanks are known to enhance performance. However, it’s essential to note that fluctuations in temperature can impact your connection speed.

As temperatures rise in late spring and summer, routers can face increased strain, necessitating a cool and well-ventilated placement. Virgin Media highlighted in a recent blog post how warmer weather can stress broadband equipment both indoors and outdoors.

The company explained, “Hot weather can add pressure to broadband equipment, particularly the router inside your home. Routers require good airflow to function correctly. If your router is situated in a confined space, near a heat source, or in direct sunlight during a heatwave, it may experience slower speeds, dropped connections, or automatic restarts to cool down.”

To prevent performance issues caused by heat, ensure your router is placed in a cooler environment. While hot weather can affect performance, other weather conditions are less likely to disrupt your internet activities. Virgin Media emphasized that most weather-related broadband issues actually originate indoors due to factors like thick walls, excessive connected devices, and poor router positioning.

For optimal Wi-Fi performance, consider placing your router in a central, open area away from direct sunlight. Virgin Media advises against positioning the router near large metal objects or behind furniture. Additionally, after severe weather events, check that cables are secure and undamaged to maintain connectivity.

Lastly, to reduce interference, limit the number of devices connected simultaneously. These proactive measures can help ensure a stable and efficient broadband connection year-round.
