Russian forces launched a significant attack on Ukrainian ports, industrial areas, and retailers’ distribution centers using missiles and drones in a prolonged assault on Kyiv and other cities, Ukrainian officials reported on Thursday. Commuters in the capital were met with the sounds of air defense systems engaging waves of drones following an intense overnight bombardment, which included ballistic missiles and 258 drones, according to the Ukrainian military.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Russia conducted a massive strike targeting various vital Ukrainian infrastructures with ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as combat drones. The Ukrainian military claimed to have successfully intercepted seven ballistic missiles, showcasing an improved defense capability after receiving a limited number of U.S.-made Patriot interceptors.
As the conflict escalated, Ukraine retaliated by targeting Russian logistics facilities, including an online retailer’s complex in Ufa. The ongoing conflict also witnessed attacks on major Ukrainian retailers’ distribution centers, disrupting operations and causing significant damage.
In response to the escalating violence, Ukraine received support from allies such as Britain, which pledged classified technology to assist in the production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. However, Moscow issued a warning indicating potential strikes on British military targets in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks using British-supplied weapons.
Amid the chaos, air-raid sirens blared in Kyiv as attack drones flew over multiple neighborhoods, resulting in injuries to several individuals. The violence extended to other cities, with reports of casualties and destruction of key facilities in various regions, disrupting transportation and leaving many stranded.
