A young boy from Calgary who was rescued after nearly drowning in a river in British Columbia is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital, where his family has revealed that his lungs have suffered significant damage.
Nine-year-old Paul-Angelo Warren was swimming and diving in the Shuswap River near Enderby on August 3 when he failed to resurface after diving underwater.
His mother, Maria Warren, recounted how beachgoers quickly intervened and managed to retrieve him from the water only minutes after he went missing.
According to an official statement from the RCMP, the boy was trapped against fallen debris by the river’s strong current before being rescued and administered CPR upon reaching the shore.
Authorities suspect that he may have been submerged for up to 10 minutes before being rescued.
Paul-Angelo is currently being treated at Vancouver Children’s Hospital, where his family remains by his bedside. Maria expressed in an interview on Tuesday that she remains constantly by his side, wanting to be the first person he sees and hears when he regains consciousness.
