A new documentary called “Run Terry Run” sheds light on Terry Fox, a renowned Canadian hero known for his 1980 cross-country run to support cancer research. Directed by Sean Menard, the film features previously unreleased footage showcasing Fox’s personality and determination.
The documentary reveals various insights about Terry Fox, such as his ambitious goal to run 8,000 kilometers from St. John’s to Victoria, his decision to divert his route for public engagements, and his forced stop near Thunder Bay due to cancer spreading to his lungs after running 5,373 kilometers in 143 days.
Additionally, the film highlights Fox’s complex relationships, frustrations with media coverage, refusal of personal sponsorships, and belief that a car accident contributed to his cancer. It also showcases his deep empathy for other cancer patients and his playful nature amidst the seriousness of his mission.
Despite his untimely passing in 1981 at the age of 22, Terry Fox’s legacy lives on through the global fundraising efforts he initiated. The annual Terry Fox runs have raised over $1 billion for cancer research, carrying forward his inspirational story for generations to come. “Run Terry Run” is set to premiere in theaters on October 9.
