In a recent auction, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from the film The Empire Strikes Back was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million US. This marked the highest price ever paid for a prop used in a Star Wars movie, as confirmed by the auction house.
Now, enthusiasts have the opportunity to acquire the lightsaber responsible for the iconic severing incident. The Darth Vader lightsaber, utilized in the pivotal duel at Cloud City where the famous line “I am your father” is uttered to Skywalker, is poised to be a major highlight at the upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction organized by Heritage Auctions on November 12.
Anticipated to fetch no less than $1 million US, the Vader lightsaber was also featured in Return of the Jedi. It is just one of over twenty lightsaber props that will be available for purchase during the auction, covering Star Wars Episodes I to IX, as well as various other productions from the universe crafted by George Lucas.
Among the items up for auction are the dueling lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith, each expected to command a minimum of $10,000 US. Additionally, an EE-3 carbine blaster utilized by Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back is estimated to fetch over $100,000 US.
The auction will also feature notable pieces such as a Yoda puppet hand utilized by Frank Oz in the character’s debut in The Empire Strikes Back, Anthony Daniels’ signed personal third-draft screenplay for the original 1977 Star Wars, and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
