Nigel Farage recently expressed agreement with Enoch Powell’s stance against significant societal changes in the UK. Farage, the leader of Reform UK, defended his support for some of Powell’s arguments, despite facing accusations of racism and admiration for Hitler during his school days. Powell’s infamous “Rivers of Blood” speech in 1968 led to his dismissal from the shadow cabinet due to its divisive nature.

In response to the allegations, Farage clarified that his alignment with Powell’s views on the Common Market during the referendum in the late 1970s sparked political debates. However, he emphasized that his position was a minority one at the time. Notably, there is no indication that Farage currently upholds Powell’s beliefs.

Former classmates from Dulwich College accused Farage of making pro-Hitler remarks, joking about gas chambers, and displaying discriminatory behavior. Powell’s alarming predictions about societal dynamics and race relations stirred controversy, with quotes highlighting his pessimistic outlook on Britain’s future.

Farage issued an apology to Peter Ettedgui, acknowledging the hurt caused by alleged offensive comments made in the past. Despite facing pressure to apologize from the Prime Minister, Farage defended his past statements and actions, including his previous comments about Vladimir Putin. Farage dismissed accusations of supporting Putin, citing a meeting between the Russian leader and the Queen as a counterpoint to the criticism.

Throughout the press conference, Farage faced scrutiny over his historical remarks and associations, prompting further discussions about his political ideologies and past behaviors.
