Locals in Minneapolis gathered on Sunday morning at the site where Alex Pretti was fatally shot by federal agents the day before. Pretti, known as a neighbor and friend, was hailed as a hero for risking his life to protect a woman from the agents’ attack. The area was adorned with flowers, cards, candles, and signs in tribute to the 37-year-old ICU nurse.

A poignant sign displayed at the forefront read, “We will remember you, Alex. Nurse, Neighbor, Helper, Patriot.” The community mourned at the roadside memorial, with one woman visibly emotional, expressing a deep connection despite not personally knowing Pretti. Local activist Nero, part of immigration protests, emphasized the community’s resolve and unity in the face of tragedy.

Amid the gathering, a woman sang Amazing Grace while a man played a somber tune on the saxophone across the street. Nearby, Glam Doll Donuts, a local business, continued operations as a symbol of resilience. Mary Jenson from North Minneapolis shared the shock of waking up to news of Pretti’s death, highlighting the unwavering determination of those honoring his memory.

Jenson stressed the community’s supportive nature and determination to help one another, expressing optimism for a positive resolution. The solidarity displayed fueled their resolve to continue advocating for justice.
