A new left-wing movement led by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana has identified four potential names for their party. Members will have the opportunity to vote on these options, including the temporary name “Your Party,” during the inaugural conference in Liverpool this weekend. The other names under consideration are “Our Party,” “Popular Alliance,” and “For the Many.”

Despite receiving thousands of suggestions, certain names such as the Left Party or the People’s Party were excluded after consultations with the Electoral Commission. The decision to launch as “Your Party” was criticized for lacking a name initially, but key figures emphasized the importance of letting supporters have a say in the matter.

The party, which has faced internal conflicts since its inception, will also establish a leadership model at the conference. Recent disputes, donation controversies, and the departure of two independent MPs, Adnan Hussain and Iqbal Mohamed, have added to the challenges.

A spokesperson for the party, currently boasting approximately 50,000 members, emphasized a bottom-up approach to politics, highlighting the upcoming conference as a groundbreaking moment where members will shape the party’s direction. Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn expressed enthusiasm for the party’s potential to bring about significant political change and advocate for economic justice and peace.

Zarah Sultana, who left the Labour Party to become an independent MP, echoed the sentiment of building a socialist party connected to a broad movement. With questions surrounding the new party’s ability to overcome internal conflicts and establish itself as a prominent leftist force, its development coincides with the Green Party’s increased popularity under new leader Zack Polanski.
