Driver Jody Jamieson, alongside his horse Fifth and Five, emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday night. Notably, Jamieson’s father had clinched the same race in 2006.

Expressing his elation, Jamieson remarked, “This is a dream come true. I’ve triumphed in larger races in terms of prize money, but none as prestigious as this. This victory is truly remarkable to me.” The Gold Cup and Saucer race boasts a significant purse of $100,000 and attracts participants from various parts of North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually.

Having been a spectator of the race since his early years, Jamieson reminisced about his father’s 2006 win with the 11-to-1 longshot Banner Yankee. However, he declared that his current triumph with Fifth and Five surpasses all past victories, labeling it as his favorite race ever.

During the race, Jamieson tactfully followed the horse and driver in the first post position, nearest to the inside rail, which ultimately led to their victory with a time of 1:49.4. Praising Fifth and Five, Jamieson described the horse as ideal for the track, possessing flawless movements and a gentle demeanor.

Following the race, a jubilant Jamieson and his team celebrated in the winners’ circle, with Jamieson expressing that the win fulfilled his ultimate dream. Overwhelmed with emotions, he stated, “The feeling is indescribable. I might stay on cloud nine forever, and I wouldn’t mind at all.”
