In the realm of “Heated Rivalry,” two fresh faces are set to make their debut in Season 2. However, the announcement of Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie’s casting has triggered mixed reactions from fans who were anticipating more body diversity aligned with the original book descriptions.

Crave has officially disclosed that the ensemble of the immensely popular hockey romance will be broadening in the upcoming season to include Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie. Gillespie, a talent from New Brunswick and recognized for his role in the film “One Night Only,” will portray Troy Barrett, a forward for the Ottawa Centaurs. His previous appearance in the Netflix series “Julie and the Phantoms” garnered attention despite the show’s cancellation after the first season.

On the other hand, Justice Smith, renowned for his performances in “I Saw the TV Glow,” “Pokémon Detective Pikachu,” and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” will take on the role of Harris Drover, the social media manager for the Centaurs. Harris and Troy are the focal characters in “Role Model,” the fifth installment in Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” series, which serves as the basis for the TV series “Heated Rivalry.” The production company has affirmed that the show’s second season will continue following the storyline of Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander from the first season, integrating the narrative of Troy and Harris.

Director Jacob Tierney and producer Brendan Brady emphasized the importance of finding actors who could authentically embody the characters and convey their depth and emotions on screen. They expressed their confidence in Justice and Charlie’s ability to bring Harris and Troy to life with sincerity and understanding.

While some fans have shown excitement over the casting news, others have expressed disappointment regarding Smith’s portrayal of Harris, citing a missed opportunity for greater inclusivity in representing diverse body types on screen. The discussion around the casting choices has sparked a range of opinions among fans, with some highlighting the success of previous controversial castings in the series.

As the production gears up for the release of Season 2 in Spring 2027, fans are eagerly following updates on filming progress. Amidst the anticipation, the creators have urged fans to respect the cast and crew’s space during the filming process.
