George R.R. Martin recently shared an update with his fans on his blog, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs he has faced during what he described as a tumultuous period. The acclaimed author of the Song of Ice and Fire series, which inspired the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, expressed gratitude for the nine Emmy nominations received by the HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

In his first post since February, Martin acknowledged his team for maintaining the blog in his absence and candidly discussed the emotional rollercoaster he has been on lately. He revealed grappling with loss, sadness, and the weight of aging, stating, “I have lost friends. Battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come. I turned 77 last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun.”

Despite the challenges, Martin also highlighted the joyous moments he has experienced, including the honor of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms receiving nine Emmy nominations, notably for Best Drama. He expressed his hope to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles in September.

While the post did not provide an update on the progress of the long-awaited sixth book in the series, Martin previously addressed the delays during an appearance at New York Comic Con in 2025. He acknowledged the controversy surrounding the delayed release of Winds of Winter, attributing his struggles to meeting deadlines and expressing discomfort with breaching contracts or missing timelines.
