Train services are experiencing delays and cancellations as heavy rain persists across the country. Storm Claudia is sweeping through the UK, prompting amber weather warnings and the likelihood of flooding. Parts of Southwest and Northern England are severely affected, leading to suspension or significant delays in train services, according to National Rail.

Numerous routes are disrupted, including TransPennine Express lines and Northern services. The heavy rain has caused flooding between Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple in Devon, leading to the use of taxis and coaches for passenger transportation until at least the end of Sunday.

The Met Office warns of substantial rainfall in parts of Wales, with potential flood risks. Airports in the Southwest of England and the Midlands are on high alert, while traffic congestion is expected on major roadways. Drivers are advised by the AA to only travel if necessary due to the weather conditions.

Passengers are urged to check travel updates before embarking on their journeys, especially in Wales, the Midlands, and southern England where Claudia’s impact is expected to be most severe. The Met Office highlights the risk of significant rainfall and gusty winds, potentially causing flooding and hazardous conditions.

Rail replacement services are in operation due to flooding on various routes, with speed restrictions in place until early morning. TransPennine Express lines will experience disruptions and reduced speeds, affecting services until Saturday morning. CrossCountry services are operating on an amended timetable, with advice for affected passengers to travel to Birmingham New Street for connections to other destinations.

Chiltern Railways services are limited, with reduced operations and cancellations. Northern Rail is facing cancellations and delays without replacement buses. Flooding and signaling faults have been reported between Carlisle and Whitehaven, impacting train services in that region.

London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway are also operating on a reduced service due to the adverse weather. Passengers are advised to check their entire journey before traveling, as alterations to services are expected. Rail replacement transport is arranged between certain stations to mitigate disruptions caused by the severe weather conditions.
