A deadly missile strike carried out by Russia claimed the lives of 10 individuals in a village within Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, which targeted a bustling intersection in Pechenihy, a location housing essential facilities like a post office and stores, surrounded by residential structures.
Zelenskyy vowed to retaliate against the Russian strike and shared images of the devastation caused, including destroyed buildings, burning vehicles, and emergency responders aiding the injured. The governor of the region, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that 17 people were also wounded in the assault.
The assault resulted in significant damage to 10 private buildings, a café, a post office, a store, and at least seven cars, according to Syniehubov. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office mentioned that Russia allegedly used two small Banderol cruise missiles in the attack.
Meanwhile, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone offensive on Moscow and its surrounding areas, deploying 620 drones in one of Kyiv’s most extensive aerial attacks on the region. Russian forces reportedly downed 180 drones over Moscow, with limited details provided on casualties or damages. The drones targeted various facilities, including a warehouse of the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries, leading to minor damages.
Furthermore, several Russian-controlled regions, including Crimea, reported intense attacks from Ukraine. Southern districts of the Crimean peninsula faced drone strikes, resulting in power supply disruptions and challenging situations in multiple regions. Russia issued a warning to Britain for allegedly supplying drones to Ukraine for attacks on Russian territory, emphasizing potential consequences for such actions.
British Defense Ministry did not confirm the use of British drones in the attacks. In response to the Russian embassy’s remarks, a Defense Ministry spokesperson reiterated Britain’s support for Ukraine and commitment to providing necessary equipment for defense. Earlier, Britain announced plans to supply 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a substantial funding package.
