Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident involving the SUV carrying Anthony Joshua, as per eyewitness accounts. Following the crash, the British boxer was rushed to a hospital in Nigeria for treatment. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway near Makun, where Joshua’s vehicle collided with a stationary truck after a tire burst, causing the driver to lose control.
Eyewitnesses reported that Joshua was traveling in a convoy consisting of two vehicles, a Lexus SUV, and a Pajero SUV. The Lexus, carrying four occupants including Joshua, veered off the road after the accident. Tragically, two passengers, one beside Joshua and the other beside the driver, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, confirmed that Joshua was safe and en route to the hospital following the accident. The 36-year-old boxer, who recently defeated Jake Paul, was in Nigeria, his parents’ homeland, for a visit. Joshua, born in England, proudly represents Nigeria as well.
Looking ahead, Joshua hinted at significant plans for 2026 and reignited his rivalry with Tyson Fury in a post-fight statement on Instagram. Despite the recent victory, Joshua remains focused on his future endeavors and expressed gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering backing during his matches.
