Benjamin Satterley, a renowned English professional wrestler and vital figure in the U.S.-based All Elite Wrestling (AEW), has passed away at the age of 40. AEW confirmed Satterley’s death, known as Pac in the ring, through their social media platforms on Sunday evening. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed. Despite wrestling on TV the night before against Andrade el Idolo in Chicago, news of his passing has shocked the wrestling community.
Hailing from Newcastle, England, Satterley kickstarted his wrestling journey in 2004 in the U.K. and went on to compete in various independent circuits worldwide, including Japan and Mexico. He quickly gained recognition for his acrobatic and high-flying maneuvers in the ring, coupled with his well-defined physique. His wrestling passion ignited at the age of 18, influenced by his aunt’s love for WWF.
During his tenure from 2012 to 2018 at World Wrestling Entertainment under the name Adrian Neville, Satterley played a pivotal role in NXT’s developmental program and later in the cruiserweight division. He joined the emerging AEW in 2019, engaging in matches with the company’s top talents and securing multiple championships, including the inaugural international title.
Known for his signature move, the black arrow, Satterley was dubbed “The man that gravity forgot” for his twisting corkscrew dive from the top rope onto his opponents. In the ring, he often portrayed the menacing character of “The Bastard,” occasionally showcasing a lighter side in matches like the memorable one against Orange Cassidy.
While Satterley maintained a private life outside the wrestling realm, tributes poured in from colleagues and friends post his demise, highlighting his excellence, work ethic, and humility. AEW CEO Tony Khan and Toronto-based wrestler Josh Alexander were among those who praised Satterley’s remarkable qualities and contributions to the sport.
Tragically, Satterley’s passing marks the second loss of an AEW wrestler within a month, following the death of Andy Williams, also known as The Butcher. Williams collapsed during an independent wrestling event in Pittsburgh earlier in September. Satterley, who rarely shared on social media, posted a photo with Williams just days before the tragic incident.
