The Toronto Blue Jays are gearing up for a crucial stretch as they have 30 games remaining in the regular season. Their journey to secure a playoff spot kicks off on Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals at home. Currently trailing the Cleveland Guardians by two games for the final American League wild-card spot, the Blue Jays will play their next six games at Rogers Centre before embarking on a challenging nine-game road trip.

In the wild-card race, the Houston Astros are close behind the Guardians, who are on a five-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers claimed the top spot in the AL West, and the Minnesota Twins, tied with the Blue Jays, are also in contention after defeating the Athletics. Other teams like the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, and Detroit Tigers are still in the hunt for a wild-card spot.

The Blue Jays will have veteran right-hander Max Scherzer on the mound for Tuesday’s game, facing off against the Royals’ right-hander Seth Lugo. Despite the Royals’ recent eight-game winning streak, they are six games behind Toronto in the wild-card standings. The upcoming series against the Mariners, who are just a game behind the Blue Jays, adds to the intensity of the playoff race.

Having won 13 out of 22 games this month, the Blue Jays are looking to bounce back after losing two of three games to the Yankees over the weekend. With a favorable schedule ahead, the Blue Jays will not face any teams with a winning record. Their remaining opponents collectively hold a winning percentage of .464, with a significant portion of the games against direct wild-card rivals. Additionally, 15 of their final 30 games will take place at Rogers Centre, providing a home-field advantage in their quest for a playoff berth.
