Wetherspoon has recently inaugurated its inaugural pub in Europe, now located at Spain’s Alicante airport. The pub, named Castell de Santa Bàrbera, offers a diverse menu that includes traditional English breakfast options alongside some local Spanish-inspired dishes. Although the décor differs from the typical Wetherspoon setting, customers can still enjoy popular items like the Spoons’ curry with a unique twist.

The newly opened pub, running from 6 am to 9 pm daily, features an internal customer area of nearly 1,000 square feet and an outdoor terrace for additional seating. Wetherspoon’s founder, Tim Martin, expressed excitement about the venture, anticipating a positive response from travelers passing through Alicante Airport.

The company aims to expand its presence further overseas, potentially opening more pubs in various locations, including airports. With a focus on providing a familiar yet distinct experience for customers, the Alicante pub showcases a blend of classic Wetherspoon offerings and localized menu items to cater to a diverse clientele.

As the pub industry faces challenges, Wetherspoon continues to thrive, evidenced by its robust trading performance. The Alicante airport pub, operated by franchise partner Lagardère Travel Retail, is part of a strategic plan to establish approximately 30 new pubs in the upcoming year, marking a significant expansion phase for the popular chain.
