A well-known hotel and dining establishment abruptly shut down after serving customers for 46 years, causing distress among patrons. Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire just off the A6 road, has officially ceased operations. The closure led to the termination of all staff members.
Visitors to the site were greeted with a closure notice affixed to the entrance, signaling the end of operations. The expansive 14-acre property boasted various amenities such as a pub, dining area, sports facilities, event spaces, a cricket field, bowling green, and three parking areas.
As per the Lancashire Post, the posted message stated, “After 46 years in business, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed. This decision, reached after careful consideration, marks the end of an era. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our loyal customers, dedicated staff, and supportive suppliers over the years.”
Heartbroken customers took to social media to express their sadness over the news. One individual reminisced, “It’s where my husband proposed to me in 2012,” while another shared, “I got engaged here in 2015. Such a loss.” Another commenter mentioned, “I’ve been a regular at Guys for years, even proposed to my partner in the restaurant to a round of applause from fellow diners. It’s sad to see it go; hopefully, someone will preserve its charm.”
The Wilkinson family had managed the business since 1980 and had listed it for sale last year, citing an approximate annual turnover of £4.2 million without a specified guide price.
Noted for its strategic location near the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland, Guys Thatched Hamlet & Hotel featured 65 ensuite guest rooms that attracted both leisure and commercial clientele. Positioned conveniently along the A6 route south of Bilsborrow village, adjacent to the Lancaster Canal, the establishment was within close proximity to major motorway intersections, allowing easy access for visitors from surrounding areas.
Under the ownership of the current clients for over four decades, the property underwent extensive refurbishments, expansions, and enhancements. Guy’s Thatched Hamlet had garnered a strong reputation throughout the North West of England, boasting consistent year-round business with peak seasons during the summer and festive periods.
