A man from Rotherham already serving a 19-year sentence for violent rape against a girl received an additional three years for another sexual assault on a vulnerable teenager in the same town. Sageer Hussain, aged 40, was convicted earlier this year of raping a 14-year-old girl after an investigation by the National Crime Agency.
During sentencing, Judge Thomas pointed out that Hussain was not the first to exploit the victim, highlighting the widespread sexual exploitation of over 1,400 children in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. Hussain is one of 49 individuals prosecuted by the NCA in connection with abuse in Rotherham.
Despite already serving a lengthy sentence for previous offenses, Hussain was given an extra three years for the latest rape. His brothers were also involved in similar crimes in Rotherham. Judge Thomas mentioned that Hussain lacked positive role models and emphasized that despite being a teenager at the time, he made conscious decisions to commit these crimes.
Hussain, who defended his brother ‘Ash’ in the past, was arrested and charged with rape himself. The judge acknowledged Hussain’s medical condition and his constructive behavior in custody but handed down a three-year imprisonment term, to be served consecutively to his current sentence. Hussain’s victim showed great courage in reporting the crime, aiding in securing justice, and Operation Stovewood continues to investigate abuse cases in Rotherham.
