Anthony Joshua, the British heavyweight boxer, has suffered more severe injuries than initially thought following a serious car accident in Nigeria. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway outside Lagos, where Joshua’s black Lexus Jeep collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. While Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized, tragically, the crash resulted in the loss of his close friends, Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria provided preliminary findings, stating that the crash involved the two vehicles and a total of five adult males. Two individuals lost their lives, one was injured, and two others escaped unharmed. Joshua was rescued with minor injuries. The injured individual received medical attention, while the deceased were taken to the morgue for further procedures by the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division.
Despite initial reports of minor injuries, concerns have arisen about the severity of Joshua’s condition. Sources close to the former heavyweight champion suggest that his injuries may be more significant, possibly including rib and knee damage. A social media video showed Ayodele playing table tennis with Joshua shortly before the accident, reflecting on their time together. Many have expressed their condolences, with Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, leading the tributes to the deceased friends.
Matchroom Boxing confirmed the passing of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, emphasizing Joshua’s injuries and hospitalization for evaluation. The statement urged respect for the privacy of those affected and indicated that no further comments would be made at that time.
