Residents of Prince Andrew Avenue in Australia are considering renaming the road due to the scandal involving Prince Andrew. Similar calls for name changes have been made in the UK in towns like Maidenhead, Berkshire, and Broadstairs, Kent. The local Whittlesea City Council in Australia has confirmed that residents have inquired about changing the street’s name following the controversy surrounding Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Prince Andrew was recently stripped of his titles and ousted from his royal residence by the king due to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite denying any allegations of wrongdoing related to Epstein, some residents, including local councillor Michael Labrador, support changing the street name to reflect the disgraced royal’s fall from grace.
Tony George, a resident of Prince Andrew Avenue, expressed acceptance of a potential name change, acknowledging the inevitability of the situation. The Whittlesea Council spokesperson mentioned that a majority of affected residents must support a name change application, following the naming rules for places in Victoria that emphasize enduring road names changed only when necessary.
The council is currently engaging with residents interested in a name change to determine the next steps, with no formal renaming process initiated yet. Meanwhile, a US congressman has suggested that Jeffrey Epstein may have trafficked more individuals to meet Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre, as part of an ongoing inquiry into the Epstein Files’ alleged clients.
The congressman, Suhas Subramanyam, has called on Prince Andrew to testify under oath about his involvement in Epstein’s sex-trafficking ring, along with other powerful men linked to the case. Survivors of Epstein’s crimes have provided crucial information during the probe, prompting further investigations.
