The family of a woman whose husband is wanted for her murder criticized the police for not apprehending the perpetrator, demanding justice. Harshita Brella, 24, was strangled at her residence after reporting abuse by her spouse, Pankaj Lamba. Lamba, 23, left for India before Harshita’s body was found in a car boot. Sudesh Kumari, Harshita’s mother, expressed frustration over the delay in capturing the killer, questioning the actions of both UK and Indian authorities.
In an interview with the BBC from Delhi, Sudesh Kumari emphasized her desire for justice to bring closure. Harshita’s body was discovered in Ilford, London, a day after her family reported her missing. Investigators believe the murder occurred in Corby, Northamptonshire. Lamba, who fled to India post the incident, faces charges of murder, rape, and other offenses.
Sonia Dabas, Harshita’s sister, criticized the UK police for what she perceives as a lack of seriousness in the case, suggesting a bias against foreign nationals. She highlighted the previous domestic abuse case filed by Harshita, alleging negligence by Northamptonshire Police in addressing the matter.
The family believes that Lamba’s perception of evading justice stemmed from the police’s alleged laxity. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating four officers for their handling of the domestic abuse report. Lamba, captured on CCTV in India, withdrew a significant amount of money from a bank in Gurugram, as reported by local media.
Detective Superintendent Johnny Campbell acknowledged the tragic anniversary of Harshita’s death, expressing condolences to her family. Northamptonshire Police provided ongoing support to the family and returned Harshita’s belongings during a visit to India.
