The World Nomad Games, a cultural and sporting event celebrating traditional nomadic sports, are currently taking place in Kyrgyzstan this week. Athletes representing 104 countries are participating in the games featuring sports from the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. The events, which conclude on Sunday, are being held at the venue in Kyrchyn Gorge, approximately 314 kilometers east of the capital city, Bishkek.
Participants at the games have been engaging in various activities, including showcasing their skills with hunting birds, horseback riding competitions like “tyiyn enmei” (pick up the coin), and traditional Central Asian sports such as “kok-boru” (gray wolf) or “buzkashi” (goat grabbing). These contests involve unique challenges like picking up coins while riding at speed and throwing the headless goat carcass into a well for points.
In addition to the competitive events, spectators have been enjoying the diverse food offerings and observing the craftsmanship skills on display. Kyrgyz women have been demonstrating their expertise in crafts such as wool spooling, adding to the rich cultural experience of the World Nomad Games.
