Households in a specific region of the UK are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to assist with living expenses.

The distribution of these vouchers is part of the Household Support Fund initiated by Wakefield Council. Each council administers its version of the fund, offering various forms of aid such as energy support, supermarket vouchers, and cash grants.

The food vouchers are being provided by Wakefield Council to low-income households already receiving council tax assistance. Pensioners benefiting from Council Tax Support received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other eligible households.

Families supported by Council Tax will receive a £50 voucher starting December 15. Other households receiving Council Tax Support will be granted a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12.

Eligible recipients do not need to apply for the vouchers as they will be sent automatically within 14 days of the specified dates. Residents are advised by Wakefield Council to be cautious of potential scammers.

For residents outside Wakefield, it is recommended to explore the support available through their local councils under the Household Support Fund. For example, Blackpool Council is offering £200 in energy assistance to qualifying households, with larger households of three or more individuals receiving £300.

To qualify for support, individuals must demonstrate financial strain and difficulty in paying bills, providing recent bank statements as evidence for all household members. Receipt of Universal Credit or other benefits is not mandatory, but only one award can be claimed within a year.

Payments are directly made to energy providers, appearing as credits on bills or pre-payment meters. Applications can be submitted through the Blackpool Council website.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is issuing £120 worth of vouchers to eligible residents, with two £60 vouchers distributed to working-age households in November and pensioner households in January.

Residents on low incomes, paying energy bills, and not receiving Council Tax Reduction may also qualify for a one-time payment of £120.
