Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to a new all-time low. The company has introduced an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
Normally priced at £29.99 per month, the Gig1 plan now comes at a discounted rate of £26.99, resulting in a substantial saving of £72 over the course of the 24-month contract. This translates to roughly 87p per day for customers.
With speeds reaching up to 1,130Mbps, this offer is touted as Virgin’s most affordable Gig1 plan to date. Users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes with these blazing-fast speeds.
However, it’s important to note that the discounted rate of £26.99 will see two price increases during the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and further to £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all areas across the UK, so potential customers are advised to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
In comparison to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal stands out as a cost-effective option. While Sky has reduced its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, it still falls short in terms of both speed and price when compared to Virgin’s offering.
Other providers like BT are even pricier, with their 900Mbps connection costing £37.99. It might be worth exploring alternative network providers as many emerging players in the market are offering competitive prices, such as Community Fibre, which currently provides 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month with the first three months free.
It’s essential for consumers to assess their needs before committing to a broadband plan. For instance, a couple streaming Netflix daily may suffice with around 100Mbps, while larger households engaging in activities like working from home, downloading movies, and gaming online would benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps. Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre is likened to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted connectivity for various online activities.
